Exploration of the HBSM MMC Five-Level Inverter for D-STATCOM Application

This paper presents the concert exploration of a Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) and its application for D-STATCOM. The Half Bridge (HB) sub-module is adopted in MMC due to simplicity low conduction losses. An advanced modulation technique Phase Disposition (PD) scheme applied control HB switches. converters are facing DC voltage balance problems under non-linear load conditions. Proportional Integral (PI) controller voltage. Performance parameters such as apparent power, active reactive power factor, balance, Total Harmonics Distortion (THD) presented compared with ones traditional two-level converter. proposed simulated MATLAB/Simulink.
